Alleys & Streets

Gladstone has three street classifications: 

  • Arterials: The State of Michigan and Delta County are responsible for the care and upkeep of the Arterials U.S. 2, U.S. 41 and M- 35. The City of Gladstone does mow the arterial streets.
  • Major Streets: Major Streets make up over 17 miles of our city streets.
  • Local Streets: The remaining 30.5 miles of primarily residential streets are classified as Local Streets.

DPW is responsible for maintenance and repair of city streets and alleys and Downtown Development Association parking lots. The work consist of paving projects, pavement maintenance activities such as seal coating and crack sealing, street sweeping, maintaining pavement markings and traffic and street signs, trimming and removing trees within the street right-of-way and maintenance of gravel shoulders and ditches. In the winter, the DPW performs maintenance such as plowing snow, spreading sand/salt and removing snow piles that accumulate.
